Purdue University - “Sustainability”

Assignment: I worked with producer Richard Paul as a remote engineer on this recent piece for Purdue University. My contributions include the recordings of the East River rowing group and the interviews at the waste water treatment plant in Queens. Above is a promo for the show. The Nature Conservancy Podcast - It’s In the Little Envelope

Client: PRX.org, The Nature Conservancy and American Public Media
Assignment: I originally produced this piece at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies in Portland, Maine, and it was later licensed by The Nature Conservancy’s podcast. I spent nearly three months documenting Diana George Chapin and her family at the Heirloom Garden of Maine in Montville. At the time, the family was fighting to keep their town free of GMOs. Diana recently wrote me to let me know they won the fight in their town, and are now working on other towns in the area. She and her family are lovely people. Client: The New York Times
Assignment: To optimize the recording environment for the interview subject and organize a tape sync. This particular project required my knowledge of recording technologies. I identified the sound issues within our recording environment, and arranged a more suitable situation for a proper recording. My work with Cole Jackson was the end result.

Client: Salt Institute for Documentary Studies
Assignment: Locate and follow a subject for the purposes of a six-minute documentary piece. This project demanded countless hours of patience, research, and audio production. It was also one of the best learning experiences of my life.

International Talk Like a Pirate Day Vox Pop

Client: Salt Institute for Documentary Studies
Assignment: Interview subjects on the street in Portland, Maine, about a topic of our choosing. I decided to head out on International Talk Like a Pirate Day and ask people along the wharfs to share their best pirate speak. You can hear this piece on Vocalo.org and on pirate ships worldwide.

Client: The New York Times
Assignment: To collect the opinions of Cincinnati voters during the Ohio primaries using audio recordings and photography. This project required audio production and field recording skills, the ability to perform on a tight deadline, and a willingness to trudge through freezing rain and snowfall.

Client: Cincinnati Magazine
Assignment: Track down information about Cincinnati’s top ten real estate markets and describe their living potential. Required hours of intensive interviews, neighborhood hopping, research and field work. Not to mention a pile of fact checking.

Client: F+W Publications
Assignment: To create a new special-interest publication for the fine-art consumer market. Serving as the magazine’s Executive Editor, I created a strong concept, developed the magazine’s content, managed an editorial staff, and supervised every aspect of the project from conception to completion.
